Recipe Ingredients & Costing

Define what goes into each product using ingredients and packaging from your Inventory, and let Caska calculate your cost per unit automatically.

Caska lets you define what goes into each product — both recipe ingredients and packaging materials. This feeds into your cost-per-unit calculation so you know your actual production cost for every SKU.

Adding Sellable Unit inventory

On a product's detail page, find the Inventory Per Sellable Unit section. In this section you'll enter any inventory items that are used in creating a sellable unit of your product, but aren't used in the recipe of your product. These are items such as shipping containers, labels, packaging tape, shipping costs, etc.

Adding recipe ingredients

On a product's detail page, find the Recipe section. You can add:

  • Ingredients — raw materials from your Inventory. Select the inventory item and specify the quantity used per unit.
  • Packaging — packaging materials also drawn from Inventory.

Linking ingredients to Inventory items means Caska can track stock depletion automatically when you fulfill orders.

Cost per unit

Caska calculates cost per unit from the ingredient costs stored in your Inventory records. As you add recipe items, the estimated cost per unit updates automatically.

Make sure your Inventory items have accurate unit costs. The cost-per-unit calculation is only as good as the costs you've entered on each ingredient.

Why this matters

Accurate costing gives you a real margin figure on every product. In Reports, you can compare revenue against production cost to see true profitability — not just revenue.
